New York, October 30, 2025<\/strong> \u2014 During the North American Marine Environment Protection Association\u2019s (NAMEPA) Annual Conference and Awards Dinner at SUNY Maritime College, the North American Maritime Ministry Association (NAMMA)<\/strong> received the 2025 Seafarers\u2019 Ministry Award<\/strong>. The award recognizes NAMMA members\u2019 \u201cfirm support of seafarers and their families, ensuring well-being while promoting safe shipping.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening\u2019s theme, \u201cPowering Progress: Maritime at the Crossroads of Innovation and Impact,\u201d<\/em> reflected on how the maritime industry can navigate rapid technological, regulatory, and social change. Deacon Paul Rosenblum<\/strong>, President of NAMMA, accepted the award and also offered the invocation at the dinner. He was joined by Rev. Marsh Drege<\/strong> of Seafarers International House and Matthew Morse<\/strong> of the Seamen\u2019s Church Institute, representing NAMMA\u2019s broad membership across North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cThis award is not about me,\u201d said Deacon Rosenblum. \u201cIt is a recognition of the organization as a whole \u2014 and even more, of the members and volunteers who serve seafarers every day. It\u2019s an acknowledgment by our friends at NAMEPA that this work is an important contribution to the maritime industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on his conversations during the conference, Rosenblum highlighted the need for greater visibility of seafarers\u2019 welfare within NAMEPA\u2019s educational outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cWe need to do a better job of getting the word out about seafarers\u2019 welfare,\u201d he said. \u201cStudents in maritime schools \u2014 even cadets \u2014 need to know that there are people around the world ready to support them. Many young people are hesitant about going to sea because of the separation from family. We can help them see that while they may be away, they won\u2019t be abandoned.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He noted that NAMEPA\u2019s expanding focus on workforce development presents an opportunity for collaboration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHelping seafarers care about the environment also means safer vessels and healthier workplaces. Seafarers\u2019 welfare and environmental protection go hand in hand \u2014 keeping seafarers safe at work helps the environment, and protecting the environment keeps seafarers safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Rosenblum also observed that NAMEPA continues to emphasize education and stewardship of the marine environment. \u201cTheir leadership in promoting responsible shipping and awareness of marine environmental issues remains vital,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NAMMA extends its sincere thanks to NAMEPA for this recognition and for its continued partnership in promoting safe, sustainable, and humane practices across the maritime world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
